Tips for a Low Maintenance and Water
Saving Gardens
Plant low
maintenance plants that don't need lots of pruning and watering. Coniferous
shrubs and flowering shrubs are great! Dwarf evergreens are slow-growing and
needing little care; many are drought tolerant as well.
Planting
ground cover plants will slow down the growth of weeds. Mulches such as slate
and bark are also great to stop weed growth. They also help keep the soil cool
and retains moisture; therefore less watering.
Planting
perennials will save you money since you will not need to buy annuals every
year. Again choose drought tolerant plants and native plants also consider
their light requirements; this affects the amount of watering required.
Patio
and path areas created with natural porous materials are low maintenance and
can produce a fantastic, low maintenance affect in your garden.
Harvest
rainwater by installing water butts to water plants and lawns. When you water
always water the roots! Water in mornings and evenings to stop the sun making the
water evaporate.
